About Morey
My name is Morey Mei Price and I am a graduate of Pittsburg State University with my Bachelor's of Science in Communication, Multimedia Journalism. I have passions of writing and photography because I love storytelling, whether through words or photos.
My hobbies include reading, writing, photography, advocating for environmentalism and humanitarian causes, yoga, meditating, and traveling. I am looking to expand my knowledge within the communication field through whatever ways possible. I am a determined and passion-driven individual, ready to take on new tasks, while also providing creativity within my work.
Statement of Assessment
Communication Definition:
Communication is a complex, transactional process through which one or more individuals portray meaning in order to convey information. One can achieve this through a variety of mediums and both verbally or nonverbally.
Value Graduating From an "Umbrella" Department:
Pittsburg State's "umbrella" communication department has had numerous positive affects on me as a student as well as in preparing me for my job in the communication field following graduation. The main reason it is of great value is because I had the opportunity to learn about and apply communication from various different angles, as within our department we had a wide range of emphases, ranging from broadcasting and multimedia journalism to public relations and advertising. Because of this, I also interacted with students within my department who were in different emphases than me, which gave me further insight into how others think or work as well as how they apply communication. This experience has impacted me to become the communicator that I am today after four years spent with this department.
Value on Society Provided by a Communication Graduate:
The most important value that a communication graduate has on society is that he/she is knowledgeable on how to use and understand communication in its various forms, whether verbally, nonverbally, written, mediated, or otherwise. This is important knowledge to have, as every company, workplace, and relationship uses communication and can benefit from individuals who specifically studied the area.
Why I'm a Positive Representative of PSU's Communication Department:
I am a positive representative of Pittsburg State's communication department because from the day I stepped onto campus I put my all into my classes, studies, and extracurriculars. I excelled in all my classes, and this shows in all the work I developed and continue to develop. Throughout my time at Pitt State I learned new skills and honed in on already-acquired skills, though this time also allowed me to find my true passion within communication: storytelling, through both writing and photography. I could not have gotten to where I am or to become who I am today without my positive experience as part of Pittsburg State's communication department.
